From NENPA: A well-written, detailed and heartfelt story of the death of a beloved 11-year-old girl killed by a hit-and-run driver. Reporter Kiera Blessing did an outstanding job of gathering information about the incident from family and friends and she put the story together with her quality writing, which carried the reader easily through the whole story. As always with spot news, details, details and details make for a winning entry.

This Sunday package came together as a response to a series of revelations of inappropriate conduct between high school students, teachers and administrators at a local Catholic high school a month prior. One administrator was fired and a teacher and coach resigned amid the scandal. Some of the interactions in question were facilitated by social media, leading the Tribune to delve into how today’s student-teacher relationships have been shaped by our current media landscape.

From NENPA: This article speaks to how students in area schools are using social media – sometimes in negative ways – and what one school is doing to regulate this use when it impacts their students. Useful and readable graphics accompany their stories.
